Apple Bourbon Barbecue Sauce
Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 2 Cups
Ingredients
- 1 T Oil
- ½ Sweet Onion, Chopped
- 1 C Ketchup
- 1 T Mustard
- 1 T Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 T Brown Sugar
- 2 T Maple Syrup
- 3 T Bourbon
- ½ T Worcestershire Sauce
- ½ tsp Cinnamon
- ¼ tsp Red Pepper Flakes, optional
- 1 Large Apple
- Zest from 1 Lemon

Instructions
- Put the oil into a medium pot and heat over medium high heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring often.
- Stir in the ketchup, mustard, vinegar, brown sugar, maple syrup, bourbon, worcestershire sauce, cinnamon, and if you want a bit of heat, add the crushed pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a low simmer and cook it gently for 5 minutes.
- Peel the apple and grate it. (avoid the core).
- Stir the grated apple and lemon zest into the sauce and continue to cook on a low simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Serve with Chicken or Pork and Enjoy!
